I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thour mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed; and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.  Revelation 3:18

How May We Get Closer to Our Creator?

How can we learn to be more attentive to the “small voice” of God referenced by Elijah (cf. 1 Kings 19:12)? No doubt one important factor is our closeness to the originator of that voice, isn’t that true? The closer we are to the original language, the better! Here’s an example of a New Testament text that could make a difference:

“Show me the seal of the obligation. And they brought it to him.” Matt. 22:19 (TLT©)

“Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.” (KJV)

The TLT© translation above is a literal translation of what I believe is a copy of the original Hebrew manuscript of Matthew 22:19. It is based upon Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew. Based upon my own studies I have no doubt that all Greek manuscripts of Matthew are ultimately derived from an original Hebrew manuscript, probably via an Aramaic intermediary. As best I can tell Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew is not a perfect copy of the original Hebrew MS since there are obvious lacunas here and there in the text. (A complete version of Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew is published in “Hebrew Gospel of MATTHEW” by George Howard. It has a parallel English version on each opposing page. A more easily available book discussing some important particulars that may be learned from Shem Tov’s Hebrew Matthew is “The Hebrew Yeshua vs. the Greek Jesus” by Nehemia Gordon.)

I find the above verse of considerable interest in that it does not seem to give reference to a coin as suggested by the KJV, but rather to a specific document.  That would correspond to for example a signed Individual Income Tax Return, which is a specific contract between IRS and the individual signing it, is it not? That is very different from an assumption of the tax obligation being based upon general law, or upon the coins and currency in general circulation, is it not?

Psalm 91:1

I was reading Psalm 91 & the first verse really struck me, like a bolt from the blue, what it is really talking about. “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ” He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High is talking about dwelling with God in deep prayer, meaningful Bible study & having a real relationship with God. Abiding under the shadow of the Almighty means that as a result of this deep relationship with God, we will abide under His protection & love. It really struck me after all these years of reading & not really understanding what it was talking about.

why 10 days?

As I listened to the interview on 3ABN, I was impressed that this is God’s doing and wanting of us. But, I can’t stop wondering why 10 days of prayer instead of seven. My mind keeps going back to the story of the Israelites marching around the walls once everyday for six days and seven times on the seventh day. Are we not going in prayer that the walls of sin that separate us from God, to fall. But also, the coming of the promised land? I’m not a pastor or a bible scholar, so please correct me if I’m wrong in my thinking.

Latter Rain

”Ask ye the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showeres of rain.”  “He will cause to come down for you the rain the fromer rain, and the latter rain.”

”Only those who are living up to the light they have will receive greater light.  Unless we are daily advancing in the exemplification  of the active Christian virtues, we shall not recognize the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the latter rain.  It may be falling on hearts all around us, but we shall not discern or receive it.  TM507.

Acts 2:17-21 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
