What We Did Today

07-07-07 is past, Camp meeting is past and every one was asking me, now what?  between March and July we had met to pray not only at prayer meeting but also on Sabbath afternoon.  Every time I had gone to the Lord asking for guidance, I had come up with silence.  But today as time moved on, I thought, I’m gonna miss going to church.  I asked my husband what he envisioned and he too had no ideas.  I called the head elder and asked him what he saw.  He said, “Let’s go to church and pray and pick an area of town to prayer walk.  So I called up a number of people.  Most everyone had other plans but 6 of us got together.  We sang Go Light Your World, had a few prayers, and picked a territory.  We had decided to all go together three and three on each side of the street.  We walked and prayed out loud based on what we saw in yards.  If we saw someone outside we went up and prayed with them.  \Some people were kinda nervous when we asked permission to pray with them but most were quite pleased.  One young man, Tony, has had a cancerous kidney removed and looks to go under the knife this week on the other.  Hopefully they can repair it.  He said he was not a praying person but he got up from his lawn chair and grabbed our hands.  Under a bridge the man found a dozen homeless men, high on alcohol and other drugs, with a fight about to begin.  The men asked for material to read, and they wanted it in Spanish so the guys took it to them.  WE spent about an hour there and made 15 or 20 contacts.

My mother used to say it is hard for God to guide your efforts when you are in neutral so this was our effort to do something.  We plan to go back to the same place every week.  Please pray for our little group.

Also pray for the chat room contacts that we are still making.  It seems we are having trouble recently getting on at the same time to share and support the people who do not have others locally who feel a burden for OGR.

Yours in the Blessed Hope,

Shining

So how are you? I like what you’re mother said. The devil is happy if we just sit and wait for something to happen. Our church group hasn’t exactly turned the world upside down, but we KNOW the Holy Spirit came and was among us during the 10 days. The neatest things that happened is that folks came under conviction regarding certain things in their lives, folks made things right, children and adults prayed together in mixed groups, no one wanted to go home…..it was a rich time of light and love. There has been a revival of mid-week service! However, I also see some points of conflict looming on the horizon. That is a part of the Holy Spirit’s visitation that we don’t focus on much, but won’t His coming also bring a shaking and sifting experience? We are approaching a deeper level of unity. Hang on! There are many fellow believers out there feeling like you. Don’t give up. Keep fellowshipping with God AND His people. I will too. :)

Dear Deer,
Yesterday we prayer walked the same area for the third time. Our first week we had 6 come out, last week 10, this week 12. There were a lot less people out this week, but all the homeless men were still under the bridge. I actually was able to talk a little in Spanish, which I struggle with. I hate to say things wrong or struggle for words and look like an idiot therefore have never become fluent. This is a real problem because there are so many here who speak little or no English. So I am determined to becomeGod’s idiot. None who came with us this week spoke Spanish very well but we did what we could.

We have about 30 coming to prayer meeting now (weekly church attendance, adults and kids, is about 80)

We want to acquire 2 satillites for broadcasting 3ABN in Eng and Span but currently none are available. Please pray that God opens this or some other way for us to reach into homes that are current closed to us.

Our little church school that ended last year with only 26 students, looks like may have as many as 40 this year. WE are determined to follow more closely Ellen White’s advice for education, are today digging up some ground for having a school garden, making memorizing Bible passages a bigger part of our program, promoting healthy eating, drinking and exercise.

We also have a dream of having a booth at the Tulare Ag Show (the largest in the world and which attracts English speaking farmers from all over the world) We are praying that a booth becomes available where we can raise money for our school and witness for our Lord.

We too have found friction points as we try to minister but we ask God to give us unity of purpose and understanding even as we impliment His commands in different ways. We cling to Him and He is giving us the desires of our hearts.

Wow! This is a wonderful report! Our church continues to meet on Wednesday evenings, too. Members continue to refer to OGR as a turning point which has brought us together in a richer way. Since my husband and I are teachers in a small SDA school, you have further inspired me with your commitment to follow the light closer! An idea that has been brewing in my mind–which I’ve been praying about–is to hold a youth-led evangelistic meeting. However, I wouldn’t call it that as most of our students are non-SDA. But since we always emphasize that we teach what the Bible teaches, it seems reasonable to let the students choose a topic and choose texts that support the topic. Have you ever seen the Bibleinfo.com? It is a call in on hundreds of Bible topics which gives you a list of texts on that topic. Last year the older children made power point programs on “gossip” and “hell” which we presented to our church on Education Sabbath. All the nonSDA parents came–so it was a beginning. Like you, we will bring ideas to the Lord and see how He leads. Keep up your courage! I’ll be sharing your testimony with our members because they are interested and I don’t know if anyone else explores the website.
