Please pray for Helen

I have a friend from work (Helen) who wants to give up smoking but always say’s she cannot because she is too weak and too addicted, tonight I went to her house and took her smokes off her and prayed with her for strength to quit.  Please pray for victory, not just for smoking but also for her salvation.

 Thanks

Chris

A few years back I discovered that Matthew 12:20 in the Greek and underlying Hebrew of Isaiah is much more of a specific message to smokers generally, than is generally understood. It reads in KJV:

“A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.”

However, the original text could as well, or perhaps even better, have been translated:

“An unhealthful habit will not be broken, and a smoking cigarette will not be extinguished, until One makes a determined decision towards victory!”

Thousands “try to quit” over and over again, but the ever ongoing wrestling match with self always succombs whenever the victim of the habit for some reason or other is too tired or exhausted to fight.

A few knows the power inherent in making once and for all decisions and to live by the same. For those few there remain no more wrestling. Their mind is made up once and for all.

It may be reassuring for some to know that the worst part of quitting a bad habit of addiction will be over after three to five days. Most people can live with that. After those days the first three weeks are the worst, and after that the first three months, the first three years, etc..

However, for those who know how to stand by a decision of theirs, such details makes little difference and quitting for them tends to be altoghether almost only too easy!!!

That has been my experience as a physician.
