Law and Gospel

Mr. Allen, that is so important – that we understand the relationship of the Law and the Gospel. It is at the very heart of the three angel’s messages. It is amazing how the vast majority of Christians are confused on this point. I guess that, it being the essential truth of salvation, the devil has tried to make sure that as many people as possible get it wrong.
Where people get in to trouble is in assuming that the Law and the Gospel are somehow opposite, perhaps even mutually exclusive. So if those are the only two choices, and you’ve got to pick one of them, you just pick the one you like and toss out the other one. But some folks feel that you have to keep the right balance of the two – like yen and yang or something. Such a balance is hard to find (usually between 7 and 9 commandments), and even harder to maintain.
The truth is, however, that we need all of both. All the Commandments, and all the Gospel – at the same time. The Law is impossible without the Gospel. The Gospel is meaningless without the Law. The Law performs the function that it always did, while the Gospel does what the Law could never do. And so it all gets done. The Bible says that Christ is able to present us faultless. He can do this only in His appointed way – Righteousness by Faith. Real righteousness by real faith. This is what the Christian world has missed. This is our message for this time.

Blending the Law and Gospel
“Do we then make void the law of God through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. Rom. 3:31. {OHC 141.1} “We hear so many who are deceived by the enemy constantly claiming, “I am saved”; but . . . they show such contempt of God’s rule of righteousness that we know that they . . . know nothing of saving grace. The heart is not in harmony with the law of God, but is at enmity with that law. Thus was the great rebel in heaven. Will the Lord take men and women to heaven who have no respect for the law of His universe? . . . {O H C 141.2}“What is to bring the sinner to the knowledge of his sins unless he knows what sin is? The only definition of sin in the Word of God is given us in 1 John 3:4. “Sin is the transgression of the law.” The sinner must be made to feel that he is a transgressor. Christ dying upon the cross of Calvary is drawing his attention. Why did Christ die? Because it was the only means for man to be saved. . . . He took upon Himself our sins that He might impute His righteousness to all who believe in Him. . . . The goodness and the love of God lead the sinner to repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. The awakened sinner . . . is pointed to the law he has transgressed. It calls to him to repent, yet there is no saving quality in law to pardon the transgression of law, and his case seems hopeless. But the law draws him to Christ. However deep are his sins of transgression, the blood of Jesus Christ can cleanse him from all sin. . . . {Our High Calling 141.3}
“I would call on all who would win heaven, to take warning. Do not devote your precious probationary time to sewing together fig leaves to cover the nakedness which is the result of sin. As you look into the Lord’s great moral looking glass, His holy law, His standard of character, do not for a moment suppose that it can cleanse you. There are no saving properties in the law. It cannot pardon the transgressor. The penalty must be exacted. The Lord does not save sinners by abolishing, His law, the foundation of His government in heaven and in earth. The punishment has been endured by the sinner’s substitute… In the councils of heaven, before the world was created, the Father and the Son covenanted together that if man proved disloyal to God, Christ, one with the Father, would take the place of the transgressor, and suffer the penalty of justice that must fall upon him.” Manuscript 145,1897.“This matter is so dimly comprehended that thousands upon thousands claiming to be sons of God are children of the wicked one, because they will depend on their own works, God always demanded good works, the law demands it, but because man placed himself in sin where his good works were valueless, Jesus righteousness alone can avail. Christ is able to save to the uttermost because He ever lives to make intercession for us…” Manuscript 50,1900. See James 2:8-26 – E.G. White. “The apostle James saw that danger would arise in presenting the subject of justification by faith, and he labored to show that genuine faith cannot exist without corresponding works, ( the bible says, “So speak you and so do, as they that will be judge by the law of liberty… (Law of Love) What does it profit, my brethern though a person say I have faith and not works? Can faith save them?… Even so faith if it does not have works is dead being alone…You believe that there is one God; you do well, the devils also believe and tremble…But you should know, oh vain person, that faith without works is dead.” James 2:12-20)“The experience of Abraham is presented… Thus genuine faith does a genuine work in the believer. Faith and obedience bring a solid, valuable experience. There is a belief that is not a saving faith. The Word declares that the devils believe and tremble. The so-called faith that does not work by love and purify the soul will not justify any man…Abraham believed God. How do we know that he believed? His works testified to the character of his faith, and faith his faith was accounted to him for righteousness…” Signs of The Times -May 19,1898. “You have to talk faith, you have to live faith, you have to act faith, that you may have and increase of faith: and thus exercising that living faith you will grow to strong men and women in Christ Jesus.” Manuscript 1, 1889. Jesus said, … ” If you have faith (small) as a grain of mustard seed, you can say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Matthew 17:20. (It is not the amount of faith but rather the quality of a genuine faith in Christ that matters!)“Adam was commanded to teach his descendants the fear of the Lord, and, by his example and humble obedience, teach them to highly regard the offerings which typified a Savior to come. Adam carefully treasured what God had revealed to him, and handed it down by word of mouth to his children and children’s children. By this means the knowledge of God was preserved. There were some righteous upon the earth who knew and feared God even in Adam’s day. The Sabbath was observed before the fall. Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command, and ate of the forbidden fruit, they were expelled from Eden; but they observed the Sabbath after their fall. They had experienced the bitter fruits of disobedience, and learned that every transgressor of God’s commands will sooner or later learn that God means just what he says…” {1SP 59.1} “The law of God is the standard of character; it is the expression of the character of God Himself. It was given to Adam and Eve in Eden. God planted for them this beautiful garden, and supplied their every want. Was it too much to ask them to respond to all His love and care by obedience to His righteous law, which, if kept, would have secured to them happiness, peace, and joy forever?” Becho, July 29, 1895 . 1}“God gave our first parents a pure and upright character, in harmony with His law; and had they remained obedient, they would have bequeathed the same character to their posterity. But they listened to Satan’s specious temptations, and transgressed this holy law, and the result was death. And the sons and daughters of Adam,(us) instead of coming into the world, as God first made man, righteous and heirs of eternal life, have been the victims of sin and death and woe. This is the result of the transgression of God’s law in Eden.” {Becho, July 29, 189“The condition of eternal life is now just what it always has been,–just what it was in Paradise before the fall of our first parents,–perfect obedience to the law of God, perfect righteousness. If eternal life were granted on any condition short of this, then the happiness of the whole universe would be imperiled. The way would be open for sin, with all its train of woe and misery, to be immortalized.” {Review and Herald, Nov. 11, 1915 par. 1}“It was possible for Adam, before the fall, to form a righteous character by obedience to God’s law. But he failed to do this, and because of his sin our natures are fallen, and we cannot make ourselves righteous. Since we are sinful, unholy, we cannot perfectly obey a holy law. We have no righteousness of our own with which to meet the claims of the law of God. But Christ has made a way of escape for us. He lived on earth amid trials and temptations such as we have to meet. He lived a sinless life. He died for us, and now he offers to take our sins and give us his righteousness. If you give yourself to him, and accept him as your Savior, then, sinful as your life may have been, for his sake you are accounted righteous. Christ’s character stands in place of your character, and you are accepted before God just as if you had not sinned.” {Review and Herald, 11/ 11/ 1915 par. 2“The plan of saving sinners through Christ alone was the same in the days of Adam, Noah, Abraham, and in every successive generation that lived before the advent of Christ, as it is in our day. The patriarchs, the prophets, the martyrs from righteous Abel, looked forward to a coming Savior, and they showed their faith in him by sacrifices and offerings. The sacrifice of beasts shadowed forth the sinless offering of God’s dear Son, and pointed forward to his death upon the cross. But at the crucifixion type met antitype, and the typical system there ceased. {ST, February 20, 1893 par. 2“Our acceptance with God is sure only through His beloved Son, and good works are but the result of the working of His sin-pardoning love. They are no credit to us, and we have nothing accorded to us for our good works by which we may claim a part in the salvation of our souls. Salvation is God’s free gift to the believer, given to him for Christ’s sake alone. The troubled soul may find peace through faith in Christ, and his peace will be in proportion to his faith and trust. He cannot present his good works as a plea for the salvation for the soul.” “But are good works of no real value? Is the sinner who commits sin everyday with impunity, regarded of God with the same favor as the one who through faith in Christ tries to works in his integrity? The Scripture answers, ‘We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.’( See Ephesians 2:8-10) (my comments: So often only the first half of these verses are quoted- “By grace through faith are you saved not by works lest any man should boast…But as we see in verse 10, we are created in Christ Jesus for good works… that we should walk in them.) This is the work of faith obedience to the commandments is good works of love that flows out to humanity and only Christ can enable us to have this love-righteousness-obedience - good works.) In His divine arrangement, through His unmerited favor, the Lord has ordained that good works shall be rewarded. We are accepted through Christ’s merit alone; and the acts of mercy, the deeds of charity, (Love) which we perform, are the fruits of faith, and they become a blessing to us; for men are to be rewarded according to their works. It is the fragrance of the merit of Christ that makes our good works acceptable to God, and it is grace that enables us to do the works for which He rewards us. Our works in and of themselves have no merit. When we have done all that is possible for us to do, we are to count ourselves as unprofitable servants. We deserve no thanks from God. We have only done what it was our duty to do, and our works could not have been performed in the strength of our own sinful natures… We receive the grace by which to do those works which will be rewarded at His hands.” Review and Herald, Jan. 29,1895. The Latter Rain will also bring about the Sealing
Posted by: matt allen | Sat, May 19, 2007 11:24 pm | Tag(s): Testimonies | 2 Comments | Permalink |
“The seal of the living God will be placed upon those only who bear a likeness to Christ in character.”(Have genuine agape Love) 7 S.D.A. Bible Commentary p. 970. ” Just as soon as the people of God are sealed in their foreheads– ( this is the mark of God, other’s will receive the mark of the beast – which is not a literal mark, but a rejection of the true Christ and the true Law of God. In receiving the mark of the beast in the head is acceptance in your mind an intellectual choice to accept the false gospel, and in your hand -indicates your actions or works untied. And it is an acceptance of man made laws and religion that conflict with bible truth, rejecting God.) But of God’s seal it says: … it is not any seal or mark that can be seen, but a settling into the truth, both intellectually and spiritually, so they can not be moved; just as soon as God’s people are sealed and prepared for the shaking, it will come. Indeed, it has begun already; the judgements of God are now upon the land, to give us warning, that we may know what is coming.” 4 S.D.A. Bible Com p. 1161
To be sealed by God is to understand His word settling into the truth both Intellectually and Spiritually. I believe this means to understand Righteousness by faith in relation to the Ten Commandments and how faith and works go to together motivated by love- intellectually means the law the Ten Commandments are in our minds and helps to govern our conscience, will and reasoning powers. And spiritually means that this law of love- The Spirit of Christ Himself is in our hearts too- governing our words, actions, passions and desires-emotions, this is the new covenant. The Gospel and the Law of God go together. We must understand this, for it is the new covenant promise the Lord puts the law in our hearts and minds. “Here is the patient of the saints that keep the commandments of God (the Ten Commandments both the letter and the spirit of the law) and the faith of Jesus.” Rev 14:12.“Then I saw another angel ascend from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the earth and sea, saying, ‘Do not harm the earth or the seas or the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God upon their foreheads.” Revelation. 7:2,3. “As wax takes the impression of the seal, so the soul is to take the impression of the Spirit of God and retain the image of Christ.” 7 S.D.A. Bible Commentary p. 970. May we all experience this Christ -like image, be sealed and Glorify our wonderful Lord as we pray for it during this time of prayer of the Latter Rain of the Holy Spirit!

Sorry I’ve been a little preoccupied and not been posting to encourage others as they are seeing something that others are not seeing. Particularily power of choice and ehuffman and the writings on the Pentecost and the timing. I had a good friend from Oregon send me a pass along written by what appeared to be a brother from one of the independent ministries who was quite critical of this OGR iniitive. It was very obvious that he had not listened to many of the sermons by Pastor Myers and perhaps what little he had were listened to with a desire to find fault. I’ve really been blessed with great light especially the understanding of “fire” in reference to God’s love and how it operates. It sheds great light on the understanding of God’s wrath (leaving a person to the choices he has made) and His vengeance ( the final end-time revealing of His love in it’s full strength to a people who haven’t gathered it in day by day during their lives). Do a word study on those to words in light of these definitions for a blessing. Now I want to share something of what needs to be done to make this a “success”. If we don’t understand the teachings of the latter rain which must mature the crop of end time believes for giving the loud cry it will either not come or be given by babes or the rocks will cry out. Two essential ingredients missing from this revival are the teachings of the New Covenent and what Jesus accomplished at the cross. The 1888 message which was the beginning of this latter rain must contain these elements or it will be like the disciples asking Jesus about “when” the “kingdom” would be set up but the problem they had thinking it was the overthrow of the Roman government prevented them from recieiving what they needed and hence the rebuke from Jesus. I will quote a previous entry to this forum which I find problematic.
“God’s time line is His own not ours… ours is to be showing God’s love to the world period… not spending hours trying to bring about his coming based on OUR understanding of the time line. Jesus specifically tells the disiples this before his assends in Acts 1… “When they were together for the last time they asked, “Master are you going to restore the kingdom to Isreael now? Is this the time?” He told them, “You don’t get to know the time. Timing is the Father’s business. What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witness in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.” These were his last words.””
We have the same problem in that we don’t know what the latter rain is and is not being preached in our churches. These messages from AT Jones and EJ Waggoner were filled with special light which is neccesary for our people to have to prepare them for the months ahead. Specifically in language even a child can understand: The new covenent is beleiving God’s promises in His word not trying to make our own and to call the finished work in Jesus perfect life and sacrificial death bringing salvation to every man an “offer” is an insult to our dear Saviour. And of course the “nature of Christ” mentioned by another brother in an earlier post is right on. We need to teach it but with such love and humility that it will disarm the prejudice that we have built up as we have made it a “test” in our thinking. And be exceedingly careful not to say He “had” a sinful nature. Let’s use the bible language. He “took”, was “made”, “became” something He wasn’t. Just like in reverse we are made to be something we are not. We have a sinful nature and become partakers of the divine nature.
So as we pray brothers and sisters lets let this “rain” do it’s work in our lives to prepare us for the labor in the fields as the 4th angel is commisioned to annoint our lips with a message of such import that the world will be given such a demonstration of God’s glory that none will continue on the fence that does not exist and never has. As EGW quotes Joseph Wolff’s response to scoffers who would revile him in his preaching of the second advent prior to 1844 He stated when they would use the text “No one knows the day or the hours” he would say “Does Jesus say that no one ever would?” Amen. The Timing of the Outpouring

I discovered something interesting while reading the material by A. T. Jones on the O.G.R. website. He pointed out that the Disciples didn’t know when the promise of the Holy Spirit would be fulfilled, only that Jesus said “Tarry in Jerusalem until …”. Looking back, we know that it was fulfilled on Pentecost. But they didn’t know yet. Jesus didn’t say how long.
So likewise, we can’t set a time for the Latter Rain to fall, but we can - as did the Disciples - set a time to ask God for it. They didn’t set out to pray for ten days, they were going to pray until the Spirit came! We must not loose interest in seeking God when these ten days are over, but we must be intentional about asking for the Spirit and letting Him work on us until the Latter Rain falls. God will keep His promise. I believe that the time has come for these things to happen.
I am starting to understand the Third Angel’s Message. It has occurred to me that if we are going to proclaim the Message with great power, we had better know what it means. Basically, if I can’t explain it to someone else, then I don’t really know it. It’s going to have to be so clear in my mind, so simple. Just memorizing some spiel won’t do it. If we’re going to preach this Message with conviction and convincing power, we’ll have to know it.
The world has heard the two counterfeits: “Justification by works” (Catholic) and “Justification on paper only” (Protestant), now it needs to hear the Gospel.
Perfect Timing: May 18 and the 40 Days of Prayer!
Posted by: PowerOfChoice | Tue, May 8, 2007 4:46 am | Tag(s): Testimonies | 2 Comments | Permalink |
Quote from the home page:
“Forty Minutes For Forty Days
“Beginning May 18th, we are encouraging every individual to partake of the 40 minutes for 40 days event.
“For 40 days leading up to the June 27th, each person devotes 40 minutes to personal prayer time.”
Sunset Friday, May 18, is the beginning of the Sixth Sabbath of the Seven Sabbaths towards Pentecost! The 43rd Day in the count of Omer. That was the same day Yeshua ascended to heaven as per Acts 1:9-10.
Notice the reference to the Sabbath in Acts 1:12! Notice also that this same day was the 40th day that Yeshua was being seen per Acts 1:3. Counting backwards to the first day that Yeshua was being seen you arrive at the Third Day of the week, or don’t you? That day began at sunset on a Monday, do you see?
Yeshua was released from the tomb near the beginning of the Third Day, just as he said so many times, and as Paul and Peter also confirmed. Cf. this table of events for that year!
Accordingly, just as were the disciples after Yeshua’s ascension, we too are about to enter into eight days when we “continue with one accord in prayer and supplication” during the same eight days preceding and including Pentecost:
Act 1:12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from
Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.Act 1:13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
Act 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Let’s all not miss that eight day long date with our Saviour and with our Creator! What a joyous event!
Let’s all join hands together world wide as we meet together in prayer!
Let us desire from our Savior and Creator the specific solutions to each our troubles and challenges that He alone is able and willing to show us!

Justification by Faith
Posted by: ehuffman | Fri, May 4, 2007 2:18 pm | Tag(s): Testimonies | 1 Comment | Permalink |
The article by Pastor Myers,
“The Dilemma of One Accord and the Third Angels Message in Verity”
is right on. He explains in clear language the concept of justification by faith. Those who give reasons (justification) for their sins disqualify themselves for salvation. Examples include blaming others, blaming circumstances, blaming the devil, saying “well, I am human”, or saying “at least I didn’t …”, etc, etc.. We can’t be forgiven of sins we didn’t commit - we have to admit that they are sins, and that means there is no excuse for them.
He also mentioned the nature of Christ. That has been a big debate, but Pastor Myers let the air right out of it by pointing us to 2 Peter 1:4. I have known people who maintained that Christ had a human nature superior to ours that gave Him advantages in His fight against temptation. That belief allowed them to excuse some of their little nagging sins because “we can’t be perfect, we’re human”. But now “we are without excuse” - the secret is out. We just need to claim God’s “exceeding great and precious” promise and ask Him for the Divine Nature! It now makes sense to me that if we don’t believe that this Divine Nature is available to us, we won’t ask for it, and so we can’t receive it. As James says “ye have not because ye ask not”. So the secret to perfection is faith. Not faith in the our ability to stop sinning, but faith in God’s promise to give us His Divine Nature. We don’t need an excuse, we need faith!
What god am I Asking to Set the Timing of My Life?
Posted by: PowerOfChoice | Tue, May 1, 2007 9:59 pm | Tag(s): Testimonies | 1 Comment | Permalink |
How is my timing set?
Do I offer “strange fire before the LORD?” or is my fire truly of YHWH’s kindling? (Cf. Num. 3:4; 26:61; Lev. 10:1.)
It is important to have a good tune up in order for the engine of my automobile to be running smoothly and with optimal power, is it not? Isn’t the objective of a good tune up to make certain that the spark is igniting at exactly the right time as called for by the specific fuel I use for power? Is timing of the spark that we call ignition important?
How about in regards to the cycles of life that we call bio rhythms? Is it important for a woman to know exactly where she is in her monthly cycle? When a man and a woman desire a child, is it important for them to recognize and give heed to the bio rhythms God is making clear to them? Does it make a difference in the mood of your child whether (s)he went to bed in time the night before? How about my own sleep and wake cycles?

The Biblical Calendar & the true Day of Pentecost:
Today until sunset is the Third Day [of the week] and the Thirteenth Day of the Second Moon. [That is, using the Biblical Calendar established from the beginning of creation.]
Today is also the Twenty-fifth Day of Omer. [That is, counting the weekly Shabbat within the Feast of Unleavened Bread as Day One of Omer.]
The Fiftieth Day of Omer is better known as the Day of Pentecost or as the Feast of Weeks. [Because the base Shabbat is also the 0th Shabbat, the 7th Sabbath is also the 50th Day of Omer according to biblical (not Jewish) reckoning. That is, 1 + ( 7 x 7 ) = 50. Notice that the number One (1) comes first, not last! Makes sense, doesn’t it?]
Accordingly, sunset tonight is the exact mid-point in the Counting of the Days of Omer as per correct biblical reckoning.

Whose blessings do I value most? Can I tell by the choices I have made?
How important do any of the above biblically defined days appear to me if and when I do not recognize them for what they are? How important is anything to any of us before we are aware of its existence? Yet, does my ignorance change the fact that my car will not run well if the spark is igniting at the wrong time? Does my ignorance of my wife’s monthly cycle have an impact upon the beingness of our family? Are there blessings in being ignorant of important facts of life that God in His wisdom is doing His best to teach us? Or, is my own ignorance at the root and cause of every curse I suffer in life?
As Seventh-day Adventists we realize some tremendous blessings by being tuned to God’s 7th Day Sabbath, don’t we? Isn’t it true that every Sabbath is a time when you and I are once again being rejuvenated by a very timely spark which is not “of our own kindling?”
- - -
May I be missing the point - and miss out on some of the most important blessings of our Creator?
On the Fourth Day of the Creation Week the Creator established once and for all (i.e. for you and I) the markers of His Calendar. By means of records written by such as were observing God’s timing as defined in Leviticus Chapter 23 it is possible to place those records exactly in time and to correlate such records with various Calendars of men with which we may be more familiar.
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years” Genesis 1:14.
Accordingly, by use of such records it has been shown that today until midnight is also “Tuesday, May 1, in the 2007th Year” after the beginning of the reign of Caesar Tiberius. [That is, as reckoned by the Vatican Calendar, which we all recognize as the Gregorian Calendar.]
What blessings may I be missing out on by being tuned exclusively to the Calendar of Pope Gregorian or while forgetting all about the abundant blessings inherent in the events tied into the time keeping revealed to me in the Holy Scriptures?
If I pride myself upon my recognition of the meaning of Daniel 7:25, while yet I am stopping short of identifying and correcting in my own life as many as I possibly can of those “change[d] times and laws,” am I then taking full advantage of the many showers of blessings God is desiring for each one of His own Sons and Daughters?
“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.”
- - -
A last minute invitation to the Wedding Supper of the Lamb of God:
Perhaps I may extend an invitation from our Creator, to each of you who are truly my Brothers and Sisters in Messiah and who are daily being anointed with the oil of the Word of God, to join me in prayer for being ignited by the spark of God’s kindling in a very special way on the 50th Day of Omer, which day is also the Seventh Shabbat of Omer and the biblical Day of Pentecost [May 26, 2007?] Who knows what previously unrecognized blessings might be realized by being thus attuned to God’s own timing? Perhaps, for those of us that accept this invitation, we shall have an opportunity to experience more fully the meaning of the words recorded in Acts 2:2-3?
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Perhaps our Creator has something more in store for those of us that are willing to learn more about His fire, His sparks, the outpouring of His Holy Spirit, and the mysterious powers inherent in His cleansing water fuel, the very thing we use for foot washing even at the Lord’s Supper?
- - -
Am I one virgin without oil for my lamp?
But perhaps also there is in a very real sense a need to be prepared such that I will not find myself without oil in my lamp, or without fuel in my cylinders, when the midnight cry is heard? Perhaps there are deadlines to meet, choices I must make, lest I shall find myself – along with some other virgins who overlooked bringing oil for their lamps - after passing a fork in the road, on a road where I do not wish to be? Perhaps it is time right now, that I direct my thoughts, my decisions, and my actions fully into the hands and teaching of the Word of God?
- - -
A confirmation from the pen of Ellen Gould White:
“We are not to walk with God for a time, and then part from his company, and walk in the sparks of our own kindling… We are called to proclaim the special truths for this time… We cannot depend upon form or external machinery. What we need is the quickening influence of the Holy Spirit of God. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of Hosts.” “ {The Review and Herald, March 2, 1897, paragraph 12-14}
