Unity idea

I have an idea.  I was thinking about the early church being together “in one place”, in “one accord”, having “all things in common”, etc.  How about uniting the Black an White conferences in the east?  This division along racial lines is way out of date (even by worldly standards), and can hardly be described as unity.  This would be the acid test of our willingness to work in unity - it would move us beyond mere talk to real action in this area.  ”If my people … humble themselves”.  When we get ready, God is ready to send the rain.  What do you think?

Only 2 weeks before even I heard of the OGR project I was prepaing for a prayer meeting and was led to Acts of The Apostles page 36 and 37 specifically.

Everyone must use this as a guide to prepare.

Yes, unity is divine. But only when it is unity solidly based upon the truth and upon the principles of our Creator. In the bible we learn of many mistakes committed upon the mistaken beliefs of acting upon an order from God when in fact the order was that of Satan himself.

Yet, unity is divine! True unity! Fundamental unity! The unity resulting from two becoming one! In fact isn’t the word divine derived from ‘di-’ or ‘duo’ as in ‘two’ and ‘-vine’ as in ‘one?’ Di-uno, Di-one, Di-vine?

Yet, how can we know when and if the unity we are seeking is divine?

Is expediency enough reason to make unity divine? How about lack of sufficient time to carefully consider?

Could it be that the answer has something to do with 7th Day Sabbath observance? “Remember… to make it holy…” (Exodus 20:8) For isn’t it true that upon no other day but the last day of the week is it possible to reflect upon and to learn from that which transpired during the rest of the week? Or isn’t it most important to take time off to reflect upon that which has been, while in a state of peace, rest, and tranquility.

Many great men and women before us have made grave and serious mistakes, from which we each may learn by reflecting upon the record engraved in the Scriptures. Do we do that enough? Do we do that regularly? Or are we doomed to repeat history and the mistakes we could have avoided if we had only taken time…

Ezra’s book, the last chapters, is a record of a most grievous mistake that Ezra made and that others followed. Has it made us any wiser? Or are we contributing to a society or to churches committed to ideas of men that are not very different than the fateful thoughts honestly believed both by Ezra and by the most prominent and very respectable leaders of those that made their way back to Jerusalem before any others? But I have expanded some upon this issue under JC’s article “Old Convenant Revival VS. New Covenant?” below…

I am really confused. Why DO we have seperate conferences? In my church in Central CA, we have Germans, Hispanics, Blacks, AmerIndians, Filipinos, English, and those of us of very mixed blood. There is a pastor near here who has adopted to black children. Where would we worship if we went back east? In CCC we have a lot of churches that seperate due to speaking different languages. But they don’t form a whole seperate conference. May God help us to press together.

You are so right. Where do we think we are going with this division still in place. May God help us to see ourselves first and cleanse us from all our unrighteousness so we may all make it into His kingdom.
